Before LEGO Education resources were introduced into LEO Academy Trust, Director of Computing and Digital Skills- Mrs C Shirley- explained to Raising Robots that in Computing, our schools had a good foundation using online, block-based coding in Scratch and teachers had good digital skills. In her role, she wanted to explore a more hands-on approach to learning that would also develop teachers’ confidence in teaching coding. She is a firm believer that coding should be focused on problem-solving: SPIKE Essential was the perfect solution!

Mrs C Shirley first experienced LEGO Education in-action at the BETT Show. And after a further workshop session with Raising Robots in 2022, she knew that SPIKE Essential was a key resource to support the development of coding skills at KS1 & 2, along with wider skills that reach beyond the computing curriculum such as problem-solving, communication and teamwork.

Phillip Hedger, CEO at LEO Academy Trust, is delighted with the introduction of LEGO Education SPIKETM Essential into the KS1 & KS2 curriculum, and says:

"We are so pleased to have invested in LEGO Education kits that have actively encouraged coding, engineering and problem-solving skills amongst our children which closely aligns with our Trust's vision. It has been truly astounding to see the teachers’ skills and confidence grow over just a few sessions and fantastic to hear curriculum leads discussing how this piece of kit can be integrated - not just in computing - but to enhance many areas of the curriculum."
