LEO Academy Trust aims to nurture a great climate for learning and meaningfully support exceptional schools – schools that are instrumental in the flourishing and development of each community they serve.

Brookfield Primary Academy is a fantastic primary school rooted in high expectations and even higher results, driven by a clear vision of learning, excellence and opportunity.

School leaders and staff provide a vibrant environment where children are enthusiastic and motivated to achieve endless possibilities. Children are at the heart of every decision; their happiness, confidence and preparation for the future are central to curriculum development and everyday practice.

In its latest Ofsted report, Brookfield Primary Academy was praised for the excellent behaviour of pupils and for its caring, safe environment:

“Pupils at this school flourish in a warm and nurturing environment. Staff value and support them every day. Pupils know that adults in school care about them. Any concerns are addressed swiftly and thoughtfully. This creates an environment where every pupil feels safe, happy, and fully supported.” – Ofsted, 2024

In this blog, we’ll explore what makes Brookfield Primary Academy a great LEO school where all pupils can live up to the highest expectations and learn skills beyond the classroom, ready for their next step in life.

What makes Brookfield Primary Academy a great LEO school?

Character Education

LEO Academy Trust prides itself on developing the whole child and preparing them for the next stage of their learning, whatever their future path may be.

Brookfield Primary follows this principle by developing well-rounded pupils who hone critical thinking, leadership skills, life skills and cultural capital.

The LEO Explorer Characteristics underpin the curriculum, empowering all pupils to embrace the LEO Pupil Outcomes, which encourage them to become:

  • Active citizens in a Global Community

  • Self-directed, collaborative & confident learners

  • Innovative learners who pursue excellence

  • Healthy learners who make small changes with a big impact

  • Leaders of today; lifelong learners.

Guided by this framework, Brookfield Primary provides pupils with a wide range of development leadership opportunities, including initiatives such as Digital Leaders, Sport Leaders and ECO Representatives.

These opportunities allow learners to step into their leadership potential and meaningfully contribute to LEO’s work in digital technology, sustainability and sport excellence. Pupils can also make the most of their time in school by becoming learning ambassadors and Head Pupils, acting as a point of reference for their peers and the wider school community.

However, nurturing leadership skills is just one piece of the puzzle. Pupils at Brookfield Primary also enjoy financial literacy lessons, career fairs, cultural and religious festivals, charity initiatives, and more enriching events that develop their cultural capital, open up their world, and help them grow into global citizens fully prepared for the future.

Outdoor Learning Provision

Brookfield Primary Academy is proud to offer outstanding outdoor learning opportunities that inspire curiosity and exploration. The school’s all-weather 4G pitch allows pupils to enjoy sports and outdoor play throughout the year, regardless of the season.

The recently improved Early Years outdoor area provides an inviting space for play-based learning, while the dedicated Forest School area encourages children to discover the wonders of nature first-hand. Led by a qualified Forest School teacher, pupils take part in weekly sessions designed to build confidence, teamwork, and respect for the environment. This space is also regularly used to support a wide range of science topics across the curriculum, such as growing plants and classifying minibeasts.

Children also love growing fruit and vegetables in the school planters and take great pride in harvesting (and devouring!) their produce during the summer term.

PedTech and Digital Offer

Educational technology plays a key role in enhancing the Brookfield curriculum.

In line with the PedTech approach at LEO Academy Trust, the school offers learners a variety of digital tools to improve accessibility, provide a variety of scaffolding options for every learning style, and empower their independence and digital literacy.

In addition to 1:1 Chromebooks, pupils engage with immersive digital experiences such as Now Press Play, which brings curriculum subjects to life through interactive storytelling.

Coding and robotics are integral to the school’s computing provision. Pupils design and program their own LEGO models to move, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills.

In the Early Years setting, children begin their coding journey with LEGO DUPLO trains and Spyro robots, allowing them to explore programming in a fun and accessible way.

Brookfield Primary Academy Nursery

Brookfield Primary Academy combines the nurturing care of a nursery with the structured, educational approach of a school.

Staff are caring, professionally trained, and dedicated to creating a tailored, supportive learning environment where pupils’ emotional wellbeing and their early learning development go hand in hand.

The nursery’s outdoor area is a true highlight, featuring a water play zone, mud kitchen, teepee, and cosy reading pit. Indoors, the space embraces a natural, wooden design that creates a warm “home away from home” atmosphere.

The nursery offers exceptional and flexible care, operating 47 weeks a year, from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Enrichment Opportunities

Brookfield offers a wide variety of enriching experiences designed to broaden horizons and nurture confidence, creativity, and relationships with the community.

During this term alone, the school council has delivered donations to the local food bank, while another group explored democracy with a visit to the Houses of Parliament. Year 5 pupils investigated Tudor life in the local area, and Year 4 pupils attended a performance by Stephen Mulhern at New Wimbledon Theatre as part of Wimbledon Book Week, taking home a signed book!

Educational trips and experiences span all year groups, from Bocketts Farm and the Ecology Centre to Brooklands Museum, the Natural History Museum, and a planetarium visit.

Residential visits are also a key feature of Brookfield Primary Academy’s enrichment programme. These include a Year 3 sleepover, a two-night stay at High Ashurst for Year 4, a four-night trip to Devon for Year 5, and a memorable residential on the Isle of Wight for Year 6.

Music also holds a special place.

Pupils perform at Sutton Music’s Key Stage 1 and 2 Big Sing events, while the school choir takes to the stage at the O2 for Young Voices, the largest children’s choir in the world. Year 4 pupils learn to play the ukulele and perform at Fairfield Halls, and seasonal performances include Christmas songs sung at our local church by Key Stage 2 pupils, a nativity performance for Key Stage 1, and EYFS Christmas Sing-Alongs.

The sporting offer is equally extensive, with clubs ranging from Tag Rugby, Ultimate Frisbee, and Athletics to NL Flag Football. Both boys’ and girls’ football teams compete in local leagues, and pupils take part in netball, cross-country, swimming galas, cricket tournaments, dance and gymnastics events – just to name a few!

Brookfield Primary is also proud to participate in Panathlon competitions, promoting inclusivity and teamwork.

Swimming lessons run from Years 3 to 6, and pupils develop essential road safety skills through cycle proficiency courses in Year 5 and “learn to cycle” courses in Year 2.

Come see it all for yourself at Brookfield Primary Open Days!
