Bett UK 2023, the world’s largest EdTech event, was underway at the ExCeL London on the 29-31st March. This year’s three-day event featured an impressive lineup of keynote speakers, hundreds of CPD-accredited workshops, exhibitors demonstrating technology, and an array of fringe events which engaged and inspired educators and students alike.

Pupils from across LEO Academy Trust had three action-packed days of trying out new and exciting technologies that they will consider integrating into the classroom.

During the day, TextHelp presented alongside the LEO Academy Trust at the Google Theatre. Our Director of Computing and Digital Skills, Cheryl Shirley, spoke with TextHelp about by working with Google, together we can achieve more to identify what best practice looks like in the classroom when the two worlds of accessibility and the Google ecosystem come together.

Pupils, parents and their teachers, from across the UK and further afield, came together at Bett 2023 on Friday 31st March to explore stands, exhibitors, and products to find their favourite products.

The results were announced by the students and the wonderful Michael Rosen, compared by Dave Smith from BESA, in a high-energy awards ceremony on the Arena theatre. Extremely coveted and delicious chocolate trophies were given out to sixteen very lucky companies.

This year there was a new focus on sustainability and climate change, with the students selecting four winning companies. The Design4SDGs design challenge was a UK-wide competition for pupils aged 9-14, and was created to promote big thinking and innovative ideas on a large scale to help provide solutions for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The challenge asked students to imagine solutions for today’s problems to help tomorrow’s world across three unique design challenges based on three of the SDGs:

  • SDG3 - Good Health & Well-being
  • SDG4 - Quality Education
  • SDG13 - Climate Action

We are so proud of our finalists at Cheam Common Junior Academy and Cheam Fields Primary Academy for all of their hard work to get so far in the competition, and we cannot wait to return in 2024!
